Cinderella Jerusalem Opera Festival

While the production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Sultan’s Pool is the main attraction of the Jerusalem Opera Festival 2016, you can also catch numerous other concerts at venues around the city by Israeli performing groups, including soloists from the Israeli Opera, celebrating the worldwide cultural influence of the opera.

 

Friday, June 24

Museum of Italian Jewish Art – Italian Celebration 11:00, 12:30
Join a celebration of Italian opera at its very best, including arias and duets from popular Italian operas: La boheme, L’elisir d’amore, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Don Pasquale, Pagliacci, La traviata, Rigoletto and other popular works. Verdi and Puccini, Rossini and Bellini with a touch of Donizetti.
Israeli Opera sopranos will perform in a concert of Italian magic in one of the more picturesque locales in the city.

Bible Lands Museum – Carmen and her friends 11:00
An event of French music at its very best and a program featuring arias and ensembles from popular French operas and first and foremost Carmen by Bizet – the fiery gypsy who believes in free love. Also on the program – arias from beloved French operas including Romeo et Juliette, Le Contes d’Hoffmann, Lakme, Les Pecheurs de Perles and more French and gypsy delights.
The performance will include Israeli Opera soloists accompanied by piano in a morning of French love with non-operatic surprises to delight the ear.

Israel Museum – Jerusalem of Gold 14:00
Enjoy the greatest Israeli songs of all time in a special concert performed by Israeli Opera soloists accompanied by piano and narration.
Surrounded by Israeli visual art at its very best at the Israel’s Museum Gallery for Israeli art, the songs and music of the greatest song writers of our cultural heritage will come alive. From Sasha Argov and Natan Alterman to Ehud Manor and Nurit Hirsh, from Moshe Vilenski and Haim Hefer to Bialik and Naomi Shemer.

Yes Planet – When the Phantom Comes to the Opera – The Greats Musicals Hits 17:00
Experience the magic of Broadway in Yes Planet! The event will feature beloved songs from the most popular musicals of all time performed by Israeli Opera soloists, accompanied by piano and narration.
From The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady to The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables, from The Kind and I and West Side Story to Fiddler on the Roof and Kasablan.

Science Museum – Magic Flute for children 11:00
A one hour version in Hebrew of Mozart’s magical opera in a special adaptation for the entire family, performed by Israeli Opera soloists in a fully staged production with colourful costumes accompanied by piano.
This is the story of prince Tamino and his friend Papageno. Together they embark on a mission to save princess Pamina, the kidnapped daughter of the Queen of the Night. A journey to find love and truth that ends happily ever after.
Performance length: About one hour.

Yes Planet – Cinderella for children 10:30
Experience the operatic version of the beloved fairy tale about Cinderella who in spite of her two stepsisters and evil stepmother manages to marry prince charming.
A one hour version in Hebrew of Rossini’s operatic delight in a special adaptation for the entire family performed by Israeli Opera soloists in a fully staged production with colorful costumes accompanied by piano.
